🧭 Level 8 – Taking responsibility🧍

Table of contents:

Why is responsibility important?

Everyone takes action.
Every action has consequences.

Yet many people do not take responsibility.

They look for reasons in others.

👉 Responsibility is more than just reacting.
👉 Responsibility means: acting consciously.

Taking responsibility helps:

to build trust
to understand mistakes
to develop
to become stronger

Without responsibility:

stagnation sets in
mistakes are repeated
one remains dependent
nothing changes

Social skills therefore also mean:

standing up for yourself
reflecting on your own decisions
not blaming others
learning from experience

This step helps you to realise:

Why responsibility is important
How responsibility changes your life,
How you can consciously manage your behaviour

✍️ Exercise: Consciously developing a sense of responsibility

1] How do I currently deal with responsibility?

Think about situations in your everyday life.

For example:

  • do I blame others
  • do I make excuses
  • do I avoid making decisions
  • do I take responsibility

👉 Write down honestly how you behave.

2] What happens if I don’t take responsibility?

For example:

  • Blaming others → no change
  • Making excuses → no progress
  • Avoiding responsibility → dependence

👉 Write down the consequences.

📌 Important for your learning

Responsibility is a choice. It comes from awareness and practice.

👉 Take three days.

  • Why is responsibility important!
  • How do I currently deal with responsibility!
  • What happens if I don’t take responsibility!

🗓️ Day 1 – Recognising responsibility

I observe my behaviour.
I ask myself:

👉 “What part did I play?”

🗓️ Day 2 – Taking responsibility

I take responsibility for my actions.
I consciously say:

👉 “I could have acted differently.”

🗓️ Day 3 – Changing responsibility

I make a conscious decision to behave better.
I act differently than before.

🔍 Example of a 3-day exercise

🔍 Example: Conflict

Day 1 – Recognise
I recognise my part in the argument.

Day 2 – Take responsibility
I say: “I could have reacted more calmly.”

Day 3 – Change
I stay calm in the next conversation.

🔍 Example: No responsibility

Day 1 – Blame
“It’s the other person’s fault.”

Day 2 – Excuses
“There was nothing I could do.”

Day 3 – Stalemate
Nothing changes.

🔍 Example: Taking responsibility

Day 1 – Reflection
I think about my behaviour.

Day 2 – Realisation
I recognise my mistake.

Day 3 – Change
I consciously act differently.

🧠 Reflection

When do you find it difficult to take responsibility?

In which situations do you look for excuses?

What specific changes could you make?

👉 Responsibility begins with your decision.

🤝 Learning together (recommended)

You can practise this in groups:

one person describes a situation

the other asks:

👉 “What was your part in it?”

Then you swap roles.

This fosters awareness and personal growth.

🎯 The aim of this stage

  • You understand why taking responsibility is important.
  • You recognise your own part in it.
  • You learn to consciously change your behaviour.

👉 Those who take responsibility develop.
👉 Those who develop change their lives.
