🧭 Level 9 – Setting goals 🎯

Table of Contents

Why are goals important?

Everyone moves through life. But not everyone knows where they’re going.

Many people just take each day as it comes. They react – rather than taking action.

πŸ‘‰ A goal gives you direction.

πŸ‘‰ A goal gives meaning to your actions.

Good goals help you:

make clear decisions – build motivation – recognise progress – shape your own path

Without goals:

you lose your bearings – opportunities are missed – development is left to chance – you waste time

Social competence therefore also means:

making conscious decisions – managing yourself – taking responsibility for your own future – moving forward step by step

This stage helps you to recognise:

Why goals are important – How to set clear goals – How to take action

✍️ Exercise: Setting goals consciously

Do I have goals in my life?

Think about your life.

For example:

do I know what I want to achieve,

do I only have vague ideas,

am I living without a clear direction,

am I following other people’s expectations

πŸ‘‰ Write down honestly what your situation is like.

What happens without clear goals?

For example:

no goal β†’ no direction

no plan β†’ no action

no decision β†’ stagnation

πŸ‘‰ Write down the consequences.

πŸ“Œ Important for your studies

Goals don’t just happen by chance. They are a conscious decision.

πŸ‘‰ Set aside three days again.

πŸ—“οΈ Day 1 – Identifying my goal

I ask myself: πŸ‘‰ β€œWhat do I really want to achieve?”

I write down my first goal.

πŸ—“οΈ Day 2 – Defining the goal

I make my goal clear and understandable.

πŸ‘‰ What exactly do I want to achieve?

πŸ‘‰ Why is this important to me?

πŸ—“οΈ Day 3 – First step

I decide:

πŸ‘‰ β€œWhat is my first concrete step?”

I start by taking action.

πŸ” Example of a 3-day exercise

Example: Vocational training

Day 1 – Identifying the goal
I would like to do a vocational training course.

Day 2 – Refining the goal
I would like to study a technical subject.

Day 3 – First step
I’m finding out about the options available.

πŸ” Example: without a goal

Day 1 – Uncertainty
I don’t know what I want.

Day 2 – Stagnation
I’m not doing anything specific.

Day 3 – Frustration
I’m not making any progress.

πŸ” Example: with a goal

Day 1 – Clarity
I decide on a goal.

Day 2 – Focus
I know what I’m working towards.

Day 3 – Action
I take the first step.

🧠 Reflection

Which goals have you not yet achieved?

What has held you back so far?

What is your next concrete step?

πŸ‘‰ Goals start with your decision.

🀝 Learning together (recommended)

You can practise this in groups:

one person states their goal. The other asks:

πŸ‘‰ β€œWhy is that important to you?”  πŸ‘‰ β€œWhat’s your next step?”

Then you swap roles.

This creates clarity and motivation.

🎯 The aim of this stage

You understand why goals are important.

You set a clear goal.

You start to take action.

πŸ‘‰ Those who have goals find their way.

πŸ‘‰ Those who take action bring about change.
