🌍 The key global players (power and economic blocs)
NADEUM-WIKO ranks them according to real global influence (economy + politics + military + standard setting), not just GDP.
1️⃣ USA 🇺🇸
Single state, but effectively a bloc in its own right
Why it is the No. 1 global player:
- Largest economy (nominal)
- Leading currency (USD = global reserve currency)
- Military dominance (global presence)
- Technological leadership (Big Tech, AI, space travel)
- High normative and sanctioning power (finance, law, standards)
In short:
👉 Without the US, the current world system would not function.
2️⃣ China 🇨🇳
Systemic counterweight to the USA
Strengths:
- Second-largest economy (nominal), No. 1 by PPP
- ‘Workbench of the world’ + rise in high-tech
- Belt and Road Initiative (global infrastructure power)
- Strong state, long-term planning
Weaknesses:
- Demographics
- Dependence on exports
- Less soft power

3️⃣ EU Member States (combined) 🇪🇺
Economic giant – political dwarf (for now)

Strengths:
