Purpose of this overview page
This page provides a structured guide to the relevant official information sources within the European Union.
Its purpose is to:
- facilitate access to binding, government information,
- clearly assign responsibilities,
- counteract misinformation and rumors,
- provide a uniform reference for all modules of this project.
This page does not replace legal advice or decisions by public authorities.
Principle: Responsibilities in the European Union
The European Union establishes common legal frameworks, in particular for:
- external borders,
- asylum principles,
- rules on responsibility (e.g., the Dublin system),
- return and enforcement.
However, decisions on entry, residence, asylum, and return are made exclusively by the individual member states.
➡️ The national law of the respective EU country is always decisive.
Structure of the EU information landscape (simplified)
🇪🇺 European level
- Common framework regulations
- Coordination between member states
- No individual residence decisions
🇪🇺 National level (27 member states)
- Asylum and residence procedures
- Visas and entry
- Sanctions for legal violations
- Return decisions
➡️ Each member state acts independently within the EU framework.
EU Member States – official information sources
The European Union consists of 27 Member States.
Each of these states has its own official government agencies that provide legally binding information.

- Their own national laws apply
- EU regulations are not applicable
- Procedures, rights, and obligations differ significantly
➡️ These countries are treated separately and are not part of this EU overview.
