This glossary explains all abbreviations (acronyms) used by our partner organisations, structures and areas of activity. It serves to promote transparency and makes it easier for visitors to understand our network structure.
Organisational forms
- NGO β Non-Governmental Organisation Independent, non-governmental organisation with a social or humanitarian mission.
- NPO β Non-profit organisation Non-profit organisation with no intention of making a profit.
- CBO β Community-based organisation Locally based community organisation that works directly with the population.
- SHG β Self-help group Self-help group, usually focusing on women, youth or local development.
- LC β Learning centre Local learning centre for children, young people or adults.
- LBG β Company limited by guarantee Non-profit company form (common in African countries) in which members are liable not with capital but with guarantees.
Note on partner abbreviations
